Getting Started Series - Day 8 (Bonus!) - Run a Sale

BONUS DAY!
RUN A SALE!
We know our 7-day Getting Started series of articles has already run its course, but we're just dying to show you this, so you're getting a Bonus Day article as well!

As mentioned by multiple of our Featured Photographers, everyone loves a sale! Sales can entice and encourage purchases that otherwise wouldn't happen.

In this bonus guide we'll show you how to set up all of your sales for the entire year! The great thing about pre-creating your sales is that once they're set up, you can forget all about them and simply wait for the orders to come rolling in. :)
STEP ONE - CREATE YOUR EMAIL TEMPLATES
Before you go in and set up your sale dates, you're going to want to set up your sale email templates. These email templates will then be attached as automatic sale notices when your sales begin and end.

You can set up you email templates by doing the following:
  • Click the "Create New" button within the Email Templates page.
  • Select "Discount Reminder" as the type of template you are creating.
  • Give your template a name and a subject, and select the "Holiday Discount" starter template. Since we will be creating at least one "sale beginning" template and one "sale ending" template, go ahead and put the word "start" at the end of the template name (example: "4th of July Sale - Start").
  • Adjust the email's wording and layout to be however you would like it to be. You may want to create a unique template for every holiday that you are going to be running a sale on, and if so, go ahead make the template's name, subject and body specific to just one holiday (such as the 4th of July). You will be able to copy and adjust this template for other holidays.
  • Save your changes.
Now that we have a Sale Starting template created, the next step is to create a Sale Ending template. To create the Sale Ending template, just follow the same steps as above, but adjust the template's subject and wording to reflect the end of the sale rather than the beginning of it.

Repeat these steps as needed to create templates for each of the different holidays that you're going to be running a sale on.

STEP TWO - SET UP YOUR SALES
After setting up the email templates, you're all set to create the sale itself. It may look like a lot of steps below, but we're just being very detailed for you. :)
  • Click the "Create New" button on the Discounts page within the Setup tab.
  • Select "Date Range" as the discount type.
  • Give your discount a name. If you are going to be using the same set of email templates for all of your sales (or if you are only creating one sale at this time) go ahead and name it something generic like "Holiday Discount." However, if you are going to be creating multiple sales using different email templates for each, name it something more specific, like "4th of July Sale - 2017."
  • Place checkmarks next to each of the Email options, and select which email templates to use for the sale notification emails.
  • Click the "Next Step" button.
  • Click the "Add Date Range" button to select when you'd like your sale to run, and also define how much of a discount you would like to offer your clients during the sale period.
  • If you are planning to use just one set of email template for multiple sales, click the "Add Date Range" button to define additional date ranges for your sales.
  • Select the types of events that the sale should be run on, or select specific events from the event list.
  • Save your settings.
Repeat these steps as desired for each of the different holidays that you are going to be running a sale on.

And that's it! Once everything is set up, the sale notices will automatically be emailed to your visitors and the discounts will automatically be applied to the orders received during the sale period.
